Continuing the proud tradition of her name as well as the evolution of Holland America Line's sophisticated mid-sized ships, Nieuw Amsterdam celebrates the glamour and history of New York City, formerly called Nieuw Amsterdam - nowhere more so than the atrium chandelier and the 'Big Apple' theme in the Manhattan Dining Room. This 2,106-passenger ship, which launched in 2010, is well designed, and offers a combination of classic, understated elegance and a relaxed vibe make both first-time cruisers and repeaters feel at home.
There are 24 grades of accommodation aboard Nieuw Amsterdam - 16 of which have exterior views. All have Sealy Euro-Top mattresses, hypoallergenic pillows and flat-screen television with DVD player. In addition to the 197 sqft outside cabins there are 284 sqft Veranda Suites; 563 sqft Deluxe Veranda Suites and two 1,318 sqft Penthouse Veranda Suites. The two Penthouse Veranda Suites also have a 318 sqft balcony with four lounge chairs, dining table and whirlpool tub.
With Holland America's 'As You Wish' dining option you can choose early or late seatings; alternatively you can opt to sit at any open table on the lower level of the Manhattan Dining Room. Nieuw Amsterdam offers a range of gourmet menus, including those at the Pinnacle Grill which specializes in premium Double R Ranch Beef and inspired seafood dishes; the pan-Asian cuisine in Tamarind; while the menu at Canaletto offers exquisite antipasti and a range of Italian favourites. A new addition is the Master Chef's Table, which serves an outstanding tasting dinner in its own classy room. An undisputed highlight, which we highly recommend, is the weekly Le Cirque presentation in the Pinnacle Grill in partnership with the famed New York French restaurant; a real experience for food-lovers.
