Silversea took the bold step to venture into the world of Expedition Cruising in 2007. Typical of this company renowned for its ultra-luxury fleet of classic ships, this entry into the niche world of soft adventure cruising had an uncompromising vision. Silversea Cruises wanted to ensure guests saw parts of the world that are off-limits to regular cruise ships but strived to provide the same levels of pampering.
Conveying just 132 guests, although in truth the ship usually sails with no more than 120 due to the high percentage of sole occupancy suites, Silver Explorer is almost unique in the world of expedition cruising in that it provides such a high level of luxury. There are ten grades of accommodation ranging from the Owner's Suite to more modest Adventure-Class Staterooms. They are among the largest of any expedition cruise ship and feature butler service, bar stocked with your preferences, cosy down duvets and fine linens as well as a pillow menu. The Italian marble bathrooms have full-size baths and there are flat-screen televisions with interactive videos and on-demand movies, music and satellite news.
In true Silversea style, passengers enjoy superb cuisine in The Restaurant. There is a comfortable Panorama Lounge and an Observation Lounge. A smart little theatre is the venue for social gatherings and expedition briefings; there's a library with Internet access; outdoor grill; beauty salon and spa; two outdoor hot tubs; fitness centre; boutique; and medical centre. Expeditions are usually undertaken on board Silver Explorer's eight Zodiacs and a team of experts give insightful lectures and accompany the trips ashore - all of which are under the guidance of the Expedition Leader. We commend the all-inclusive concept where fine wines are included as well as gratuities for the obliging crew and naturalists. On this Silversea ship luxury sails in tandem with nature's splendour.
