The smallest Holland America Line ship, Prinsendam is in a class by herself. Continually upgraded and refurbished since Holland America Line acquired the ship from SeabournCruise Line, the 835-passenger Prinsendam does not have the typical Holland America layout. Everywhere, a sense of spaciousness and refined ambiance pervades. There are marvellous teak decks, sunlit spaces, intriguing antiques and specially commissioned art such as the sculpture in the atrium that features glass-encased etched fish, turtles and dolphins, lit with fibre optics. As one of a kind, this extraordinary ship is perfect for mature travellers who want classic style cruising and contemporary conveniences. It is also an ideal ship on which to make extended voyages, thanks to the amount of space on board and its small size.
Many of the delightfully-decorated staterooms have ocean views, 40 per cent of these with private verandas. Unusually for Holland America Line, Prinsendam has a range of Inside Single and Outside Single Staterooms. The Veranda Staterooms are notable for their spaciousness; so too are the Neptune Suites; Signature Suites; and Pinnacle Suites.
Prinsendam's main dining room, La Fontaine, is beautiful, boasting cut glass chandeliers and sconces, while wraparound windows offer views of the ever-changing sea and sky. 'As You Wish Dining' is on offer as well as set dining times. There's also the cruise line's acclaimed Pinnacle Grill and Canaletto as alternatives, as well as the casual Lido Restaurant.
Lavish revues are staged in the Queen's Show Lounge; the Wajang Theatre shows a selection of films as well as hosting cookery classes; while the Crow's Nest observation lounge is one of the most inviting rooms at sea.
