Shamwari, situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, is one of the few malaria free game reserves, making it ideal for families. With seven eco-systems it enables the reserve to host an incredible variety of animals and birds. Shamwari has been recognised as a serious conservation project, with one tremendous success story being the reintroduction of the very rare and endangered Black Rhino, extinct in the Eastern Cape since 1853. The range of animals to be found here is uncommon elsewhere – more than 18 antelope species and over 250 bird species are documented and night drives allow you to see unusual nocturnal animals such as the bat-eared fox, lynx and aardwolf.
Lobengula Lodge boasts a true five star safari experience, with the Chief Suite complete with private lounge and fireplace, as well as five suites providing accommodation for a maximum of just twelve very pampered guests.
Long Lee Manor Lodge provides further quality accommodation in a splendidly restored Edwardian Manor House. Accommodating 36 guests in elegant en-suite rooms, it is a reminder of an era of gracious living.
Bushman’s River Lodge gives a true home from home feel. Decorated with an artistic ethnic theme, it offers four deluxe en-suite rooms of pure luxury surrounded by African wilderness.
A new lodge recently opened at Shamwari is Eagles Crag Lodge. Sleeping a total of 18 guests in 9 detached Junior Suites, it has a very intimate relationship with the natural bush and surrounding forest. Constructed with local rock in an African thatch style, it blends beautifully with its environment. Plunge pools on private decks, wine cellar, outdoor boma dinners, wellness centre and large lounge with fireplace are all featured.
Traditional African cooking can be enjoyed at all the lodges as can stunning vistas from all dining areas. |
