Only mermaids get closer to the water than guests staying at Soneva Gili, the Maldives' first all-water villa resort. The thatched villas stand on stilts in the shallow waters of Lankanfushi Lagoon, linked by timber jetties to a private island where the resort's main restaurant, pool and sports facilities are located. The friendly staff will go out of their way to make your stay special, even ladling water over the jetty's planks to cool them down as you walk to your villa!
All the villas have king-size beds, big open-sided bathrooms with glass walled showers, and portholes set in the bathroom floor to allow views of the stunning coloured fish. Modern comforts such as a safe, mini-bar and TV are artfully concealed inside wooden cabinets in order not to detract from the natural look of the villas. Each villa has a cantilevered over-water deck with comfortable loungers for sunbathing or stargazing.
Though the villas are over 20 metres apart, allowing plenty of privacy, those who seek total seclusion can opt for the Crusoe Residences. These are seven stand alone dwellings in a separate area of the lagoon, each with its own rowing boat for accessing the island and other resort facilities.
The island is encircled by a coral reef, creating wonderful snorkelling and diving territory. Take advantage of the well equipped PADI centre to explore the numerous dive sites or get close to the marine life on a deepsea fishing excursion. Back on dry land, activities include badminton, volleyball and tennis.
After the day's exertions, ease weary muscles in the resort's superb over-water Six Senses Spa with a massage or special jet lag treatment. Then enjoy a cocktail and fresh seafood supper on the pontoon boat as it cruises in the lagoon under the stars.

The resort's stunning Six Senses Spa features over-water pavilions where a vast menu of treatments and therapies are offered. Choose from Swedish, Thai, deep-tissue and Chi Nei Tsang massage, reflexology, Shiatsu and cranio-sacral therapies, or enjoy a scrub or soak using green tea, salt and clay. Couples' massages and Maldivian treatments such as Veli sand massage and aloe vera and watermelon sunburn baths are other options, and the spa also has a sauna, steam room and gym. |
