Chiva-Som has become a byword for spa excellence. Voted ‘Best Overseas Spa Retreat 2004’ in Condé Nast Travellers’ Readers’ Spa Aw a rds, its dedication to guests’ wellbeing is unparalleled. Previous visitors include a string of supermodels, but being rich and beautiful is not a pre requisite for a visit . The atmosphere is relaxed and sociable, with a weekly barbecue at The Taste of Siam (where the manager dines with unaccompanied guests) and a host of activities to partake in throughout the week.
The resort is set in seven acres of pools and gardens on the beachfront of Hua Hin, playground of the Thai royal family. The stylish rooms and suites have sunrise views of the Gulf of Thailand, while the spacious Thai-style pavilions provide extra privacy overlooking the lake.
At the heart of the resort is the beautiful spa, offering state-of-the-art facilities and a mind-boggling array of treatments. Each guest receives a complimentary daily massage and has a personal treatment programme tailored for him or her. This might include the famous Chiva-Som massage, where sensual oils are kneaded into every muscle, a skin soothing salt scrub or a session in the domed flotation room. Improve your fitness with a yoga class, aqua aerobics in the bathing pavilion’s indoor pool, water sports, golf or an invigorating power walk along the beach.
All meals are included in your stay and, despite the emphasis on health, alcohol and treats do feature on the menu, albeit in moderation – the chocolate cake is low-fat and the champagne is only uncorked after 6pm. The cuisine is both nutritious and delicious, using fresh produce grown in the resort’s organic garden. Guests can even attend a cookery class run by the chef where they can learn to cook some delicious spa cuisine recipes for themselves.
For wellbeing inside and out, Chiva-Som is the place to be.
