This award-winning resort is set at the heart of the largest national park in the Middle East, a refuge for Arabia's endangered wildlife such as the desert lark and Arabian oryx. Indeed, it was after this spear-horned antelope that the original oasis, Al Maha, was named, for the creature would seek respite among the palms.
Today, the resort's Bedouin-inspired tented accommodation creates further sanctuary amid the dunes. Each suite is exceptionally private and romantic, featuring a temperature-controlled pool, hand-crafted furniture and authentic Arabian and Bedouin ornaments. Recent refurbishment has increased the pool size in the existing suites and added ten new rooms with pools. The spacious Royal Suites are the utmost in luxury, with private dining rooms and magnificent marble bathrooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows let the dramatic savannah views, framed by the distant Hajar mountains, flood in.
Each guest is greeted on arrival with a tribal welcome of dates, Arabic coffee and fruit juices. Enjoy them in one of Al Maha's many relaxing corners, such as the ladies' and men's majlis (traditional Arabic meeting places) or the serene, antique-filled library.
After a day of activities, from camel-trekking to falconry, dine on a gourmet blend of Mediterranean and Arabic dishes, perhaps as a barbecue beneath the stars or an intimate supper on your private verandah.
As night falls, a wonderful display unfolds as you sit in the lounge or on the main verandah with a cocktail. Enfolded by the silence and darkness of the surrounding desert, you watch as animals congregate at the nearby floodlit waterhole.

Activities
Al Maha offers an exciting array of activities that allow guests to experience desert life at close quarters. Two activities per day are included with your Full Board, often taking place in the cooler hours just after dawn. These include traditional Arab pursuits such as horse riding, falconry, archery and camel trekking, or a four-wheel-drive excursion to explore the dunes. Back at the resort, a new spa and gym will shortly be in place as part of the recent refurbishment. |
