Generations of royalty, statesmen and celebrities of stage and screen have passed under the magnificent Prince of Wales archway and through the imposing revolving doors into the Mount Nelson, a name synonymous with Cape hospitality and certainly one of the grandest hotels in South Africa.

Later in the day, an old-fashioned lift will take you up to your traditionally furnished room or suite, or you may prefer to stay in one of the sugar-pink cottages with their own private lavender and rose filled gardens, or in the new Palm Avenue suites and rooms just across the way.
As night falls, dinner can be enjoyed in the Cape Colony Restaurant offering modern South African cuisine, a fusion of Thai, Mediterranean and European flavours which will linger deliciously on the tongue.
