Originally built in the 1700s and expanded in the 19th-century to become the first hotel in Barbados, The Crane has recently undergone major renovation and expansion. Set in 40 acres of oceanfront land with superb clifftop views, this elegant hotel promises to become one of the island’s finest. The arrival of General Manager Hamish Watson, a legendary name in Barbados thanks to his 15 years at Cobblers Cove, adds an additional stamp of approval.
The hotel’s 100 ocean view residences are simply stunning, marrying 19th-century grandeur with 21st-century luxuries. Interiors feature hardwood flooring, king-size four poster beds and handcrafted mahogany furniture. Coral stone walls and cedar shutters create a cooling effect, enhanced by sea breezes. The residences range from junior suites to one, two and three bedroom dwellings, some with private plunge pools looking out to sea.
One of the few hotels located away from the west coast, The Crane is conveniently close to the airport and the local shops of St Phillip. A weekly complimentary shuttle bus takes guests into town. Boogie boards and a drinks service make the pink sand beach an attractive spot for enjoying the waves and sunbathing. Alternatively, take a dip in the resort’s lovely pool, framed by Doric columns with views across the beach.
Caribbean dishes and fresh seafood specialities top the menu at L’Azure restaurant, where a superb wraparound balcony delivers alfresco dining and spectacular views. Highlights include a midweek themed evening accompanied by Spanish, Chilean and Argentinian wines, and the lively Sunday Gospel brunch, featuring live entertainment by Barbados’ best gospel singers. A second restaurant, Zen, will open early in 2004 offering Japanese and Thai delicacies.
One and Two Bedroom Residences
