This charming and recently renovated hotel is set on a wooded headland guarding the entrance to English Harbour, once home to Nelson and the British naval fleet. Its nineteen acres of gardens spill down to a sandy beach with a private dock (a complimentary water taxi ferries guests to English Harbour), providing a lovely scenic contrast ' the shimmering blue and white of sea and sand against a backdrop of soft green hills.
The main house enjoys a lofty position on the hillside overlooking the harbour. Within this original building are the Stone Bar and Terrace Restaurant, the latter serving some of the finest food in Antigua.
A dinner by candlelight here beneath a velvet night sky is a true highlight of any stay. The romantic setting of the house makes it an enviable wedding location. Mimicking the coast's historic architecture are the colonial-style rooms and suites, set around the beachfront swimming pool or on the sand itself, and reachable by car or the resort's shuttle bus.
Though they can be a little close in summer, their high ceilings, double fans and spacious verandahs make the most of the cooling trade winds.
While activities range from tennis to kayaking and windsurfing, most guests enjoy quietly relaxing in The Inn's tranquil surroundings, simply soaking up the sun and the harbour views. |
